Manchester, New Hampshire – Senator John Edwards released the following statement today after receiving a 'clean bill of health' from New Hampshire for Health Care for proposing a detailed universal health care plan. New Hampshire for Health Care is a project of SEIU dedicated to ensuring quality affordable health care for everyone and has been encouraging all the presidential candidates to release their health care plans by August 1st. In February, Edwards laid out his plan to guarantee quality affordable health care to every man, woman and child in America.
"It's an honor to receive a 'clean bill of health' from New Hampshire for Health Care. SEIU is doing great work to bring attention to our health care crisis and advocate for change. I am proud to be the first presidential candidate to lay out a specific plan for truly universal health care. As president, I will take on the insurance and drug companies to cover every man, woman and child and will work until we pass a plan.
"The time has come for a universal health care reform that covers everyone, cuts costs, and provides better care, while giving Americans the option of a public plan. There are 126,000 Granite Staters without health insurance, including 17,000 children. Families with insurance face rapidly rising premiums and risk losing coverage when they need it most. Individuals and small businesses often face much higher premiums and sometimes cannot get coverage at any price. Our health care system is the most expensive in the world, yet the results are often disappointing. It doesn't have to be this way, and when I'm president it won't. My plan will cover every person and bring down costs by up to $2,500 a year for the average New Hampshire family."
