President Of Manchester Education Association Endorses John Edwards For President

Nov 26, 2007 3:00 PM

Cites Edwards' commitment to improving public education and understanding of issues teachers face in today's classroom

Manchester, NH – Today, Scott McGilvray, president of the Manchester Education Association, endorsed John Edwards for president. In endorsing Edwards, McGilvray cited his substantive plan to improve public education in this country as well as his comprehensive understanding of the obstacles and challenges that teachers face in today's classroom.

"I am proud to endorse John Edwards for president," McGilvray said. "He is offering the most aggressive plan to improve public schools across the country because he understands the challenges that working teachers face every day in the public school system. John Edwards is the one candidate offering real solutions to give all of our children the education they deserve and put the resources we need into our public schools."

Earlier this year, John Edwards sent a letter to Mayor Frank Guinta, the Manchester School Board and the Board of Aldermen on behalf of Manchester teachers who had been working without a contract for over 100 days. In the letter, Edwards noted that across the country, educators don't enter the classroom because of a desire to make money – they do it because they want to improve the lives of the children they teach.

"Growing up, I had public school teachers who cared about me, who took an interest in my life and who taught me the skills I needed to succeed," Edwards said. "Public school teachers like Scott shape the future of this country by helping kids realize their potential and pushing them to achieve. I am honored to have his support and as president, I will support teachers and strengthen our education system so that every child can get a great education, the stepping stone toward a great future."
