It is my great pleasure to announce that John Edwards has won the endorsement of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) here in New Hampshire. This is a major victory for our campaign because the New Hampshire SEIU represent over 10,000 New Hampshire workers, most of whom are state employees.
On Saturday, 75 members of the carpenters union loaded up their cars and drove down to Nashua to show their support for John Edwards. Nothing could have demonstrated organized labor's strong commitment to John Edwards more than the sight of 75 carpenters standing out in the rain, knocking on doors and doing their part to ensure that John Edwards is our next President.
More than any candidate in history, John Edwards has demonstrated his commitment to organized labor by "walking the walk" and helping workers across the country in organizing drives, contract fights and on the picket line.
This endorsement will significantly aid the campaign by providing Edwards with financial resources and volunteers in New Hampshire. The endorsement will also prevent other state SEIU chapters from sending volunteers to New Hampshire to campaign for either Obama or Clinton.
This is the 12th state SEIU endorsement that Edwards has won; the others include key states such as Iowa, Massachusetts and California.
In response to tonight's news our State Director here in New Hampshire, Beth Leonard, issued the following statement:
"We are thrilled to have the support of the the hard-working families of the New Hampshire State Employees' Association (SEIU local 1984). John Edwards' commitment to guaranteeing universal health care, the work he has done standing shoulder-to-shoulder with organized labor and his strength as the candidate who can win the general election next year and bring a pro-union, pro-working family agenda to the White House have earned him this critical support in New Hampshire. John Edwards is proud to have the strong endorsement of the SEA and looks forward to working with the men and women of SEIU in New Hampshire to build One America where every single American has health care coverage and where everyone who works hard has the chance to get ahead."
I hope you’re just as excited as excited as I am about this important victory. This is just the beginning of victories for John Edwards in New Hampshire.

This morning John Edwards officially filed for candidacy in Concord, New Hampshire. After filing, he met and talked with supporters who had gathered across the street at Madeline's - a local coffee shop and bakery in Concord (pictures below).
After Concord, we stopped at St. Anselm College in Manchester where John gave a major thematic address and vowed to take on special interests and restore the voice of the American people.
Next, we're off to a town hall meeting in Exeter at 4:45pm. John Edwards is in New Hampshire through Wednesday October, 31st so if you haven't joined us for a house party or town hall yet, now's your chance! You can find an event near you right here.

This afternoon John Edwards answered questions and spoke with students at Merrimack High School in New Hampshire. He spoke about his College for Everyone plan, the need to reform No Child Left Behind and answered a range of questions from students.
In response to a question about gender inequality, from a young woman who represented her women's studies class, John said:
"I want to be the president who is the most aggressive about enforcing our laws against discrimination against women," he said. "It's about time we actually treat women equally in the United States of America as a moral matter and matter of equality under the law."
Video from the day's event is below.

Two new polls drove the point home that John Edwards is the only Democrat that can win in November. In each match-up with a Republican candidate John Edwards wins. He’s the only Democratic candidate that wins in every single match-up.
SurveyUSA (full poll )
40% Giuliani
49% Edwards
41% Fred Thompson
47% Edwards
32% Romney
53% Edwards
Rasmussen (full poll)
41% Giuliani
50% Edwards
39% Fred Thompson
49% Edwards
38% Romney
49% Edwards
The fact is, if we want to win in November John Edwards needs to be the nominee. The alternative is four more years with a Republican in the White House and that is so frightening I don't even like typing the words.
The only way John will be the Democratic nominee is if supporters like you help spread the word right here in New Hampshire. We need you to call other voters, knock on their doors. The only way we can get the message out to New Hampshire voters is if YOU take action today.

A guest blog post from the Edwards for President Northwood Town Chair, Lucy Edwards
I am a community activist who serves in my town government, organizes citizens to elect candidates and support progressive causes, and cares deeply about the good of my community, be it town, state, country or the planet as a whole. I have been town chair for the Democrats in Northwood since we organized the group in 2003.
I am supporting John Edwards because he has the same values that I do, a gut belief that we sink or swim together, a real understanding of community and that humans only thrive in real communities where people care about each other. I also very much admire his courage, He sticks to what he believes is right, even when it is not expedient. I find him the most progressive and the most dedicated to his values of the three top candidates. I am also looking for a keen intelligence in my candidate and an ability to express ideas well. I would really like to have some smart people, who can distinguish fact from sound bites and craft solutions to problems based on reality rather than ideology, running my government.

After bush vetoed the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) this morning John Edwards made the following statement:
“Today, we have witnessed a President that has turned his back on health care for children. Not surprisingly, in George Bush’s administration, corporate cronies and insurance industry allies always come first, while children's healthcare comes last. In an America where nearly 9 million children don’t have health coverage, Congress must do what is right and fight for these children and override Bush's cruel veto.
“Even more shocking is that Republican Presidential candidates, including Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney are all lining up with President Bush and against health care for our children. Instead of threatening the health care of children, it's time for Bush, and Republicans like McCain, Giuliani, and Romney to start picking on someone their own size.”
The urgency and need for change is painfully clear. Volunteer at your local John Edwards for President Office today to help spread John’s message of change.
